My name is Emily Herberholz and I am a sophomore PSYC major on the pre-med track at the University of Maryland. I am also a Public Leadership Scholar. PL Scholars is, in the best way that I know to sum it up, a program which has taught me how to approach social, political, and economic issues through the practice of leadership. It is my goal to take the knowledge I have acquired in the program and apply it to my two remaining years at UMD. One of the most important pieces of advice that I acquired through Scholars was to take advantage of any opportunity present and to "get out there" and try as many things as possible. It taught me to disregard my comfort zone, as to find out what you want to pursue in the long run you must first experience. For the rest of my time at the University of Maryland, I want to get involved. I aim to graduate knowing that I made the most of my four years. I want to come out on the other side a more educated person, not only in terms of my academic knowledge but also my world view and lived experience!
